The First Frost

2017 November 1 Rectangle.jpg

Dear CSA members and farm friends,

Welcome to Week 5! We had our first frost on Saturday night, and we can't wait for you to taste how sweet the fall veggies have become.

In the share this week we hope to have:

  • carrots
  • sweet potatoes
  • salad turnip bunches
  • kale
  • broccoli
  • baby lettuce spring mix
  • Brussels sprout greens
  • dill
  • green leaf lettuce
  • flat leaf cabbage

Yes, it's lots of veggies, but topped roots and cabbages will store, and with seasonal eating you gorge while you've got it and then anticipate it when you don't.

On the farm we have been busy prepping ground for 2018 veggies, digging sweet potatoes and planting the early winter salad greens. We have been having lots of fun painting murals, eating brunch, and playing ping pong while we sell veggies on Saturdays and hope that you will make time to come out and see us one day this week.

I love these colder mornings and settling in to the fall and winter farm routine, we hope that you are enjoying the fruits of our labor and the bounty of the fall. In the stand on Thursday I was fortunate to hear stories of the delicious meals that some members are making with their weekly veggies. Food connects us all, and hearing the stories I was reminded of the great privilege it is to be growing produce for y’all, helping to provide nourishment, and the raw materials for countless shared, delicious meals.

Thanks for keeping our farm alive with your food dollars,
