Thanksgiving with the Farm

Dear CSA members and farm friends,

This week's email is all about Thanksgiving with the farm: the schedule, the veggies, what's in your share, and when to pick it up.

First and foremost so you can plan your meals. In the share this week, we expect:

  • carrots
  • kale
  • celery
  • flat leaf parsley
  • lettuce
  • spinach
  • turnips
  • watermelon radish
  • Brussels sprouts
  • sweet potatoes
  • fennel

All shares will be distributed on Tuesday! Oxford members, please pickup at OXCM as usual. Tupelo Thursday shares, please come out on Tuesday. Delivery shares are the only Tuesday exception, and your boxes will go out on Wednesday morning.

We we are really excited to be harvesting for y’all this week and take great pride in the fact that we will be a part of so many families’ Thanksgiving meals. The farm stand will be very lively on Tuesday. If you have family in town for the holidays, please feel free to bring them by to meet your farmers.

If you are not in the CSA or if this is not your pick-up week we will have lots of extra veggies for sale and would love for you to come by and shop as well. For those that need lots of extra carrots/ sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving meals we will be running a bulk special: 8 pounds of topped carrots for $16 and 10 pounds of sweet potatoes for $15.

Now that we've gotten the logistical details out of the way, what's happening on the farm?

Well, we have a hard frost coming tomorrow night so aside from our Sunday Harvest marathon we will also be working to put frost blankets on the most cold-sensitive of our fall crops. We have been waiting for the frost to sweeten our Brussels sprouts crop before distributing, so this cold weather could not come at a better time. Brussels sprouts for the Thanksgiving share, woohoo! We have almost all of our field cleanup complete, and our soil protecting cover crops planted. Our 2018 strawberry crop looks great, and we are about 10% through our bulk root harvest.

As always, we appreciate everyone that supports our farm through the CSA and the farm stand, and we look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces on Tuesday.

Together we give thanks,

Will, Amanda and girls, Brandon, Chasiti, Joseph, Dustin, Hilary, Charlie, Lujan, Jana and Lauren
